Hi there, Jacalyn! Thanks for bringing another fantastic question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!
When I am asked what my favorite restaurant is in all of Walt Disney World Resort property, hands down it is
California Grill in Disney's Contemporary Resort. The views are incredible, I've always had exceptional service and I am a huge fan of the food and drinks. I've dined there for many special occasions - birthdays, anniversaries, completing the Walt Disney World marathon and just because it's Tuesday. (OK, I really don't need a good excuse to go there!)
Access to the observation deck is reserved to those dining in the main restaurant or in the California Grill Lounge. Seating in the lounge is on a first-come, first-served basis. The California Grill check-in podium is located on the second floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort and they can let you know if there is any seating available in the lounge. You have to be escorted by a Cast Member up the elevator to the restaurant, so you must check-in at the podium. I encourage you to try to get an
Advance Dining Reservation for California Grill, if possible, to ensure you are able to dine in the restaurant.
Whether you dine in the main restaurant or the lounge, I highly recommend you order the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli appetizer. Oh my goodness ... I could order five of those, call it a meal and be perfectly happy. It is SO good!
I hope this is helpful in planning your vacation, Jacalyn! Let us know if you have any more questions!
