Do we need to purchase a Magic band? Confused on if we either need them or not and what is the total purpose of them?

    Hi, Amy!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! It appEARs you'll be visiting "The Most Magical Place on Earth" in early 2020! I know how excited you must be to experience all the Walt Disney World Resort has to offer.

MagicBands, excluding the premium offerings, are complimentary for Guests who are staying at one of the Resort hotels located on Disney property. They serve as room keys, park tickets, FastPass+ reservations, dining plan information, PhotoPass pictures, and can be used to charge all merchandise and dining purchases throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. For Guests staying at a location off-site, they can be linked to park tickets, FastPass+ reservations, and PhotoPass pictures only. These can be purchased via shopDisney or at some Walt Disney World Resort merchandise stores. This is completely optional as you will receive a plastic card as your admission ticket if you are not a Walt Disney World Resort hotel Guest on this upcoming vacation. The card will be used to gain theme park entrance, access your FastPass+ reservations, and any PhotoPass photos you have taken.

Amy, it is entirely up to you if you'd like to purchase MagicBands for your 2020 visit as they are not required for your vacation. I hope my answer clears up any confusion you previously had, and you will let us know if you have any additional questions before you leave to see Mickey!

    Have a magical day!
