Ahoy there, Stacie! Thank you for bringing your question about
travel documentation to planDisney.
US Citizens (including children) are required to either have an original valid US passport or US passport card or the original state-issued birth certificate on closed-loop itineraries and one-way cruises traveling across the Bahamas. Your 5 year old does not need a passport if he or she has an original state-issued birth certificate that can be presented at the port before embarking. Please note that you and others who are 16 years and older and presenting an original state-issued birth certificate are also required to present a physical government state-issued ID (digital/mobile state-issued IDs are not acceptable to sail).
During your DisneyCruise Line vacation, I hope your 5 year old will be open to visiting
Disney's Oceaneer Club or
Oceaneer Lab. In the youth activities spaces, young Guests ages 3 to 10 years old can enjoy group activities, arts and crafts, and visits from some of their favorite Disney characters. I suggest that you all visit during Open House on embarkation day to help your child become familiar with the space while you can be with him or her. The
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app will list the Open House times (and so much more!) once you are onboard.
Stacie, if you have any other questions, come back to visit us at
planDisney.
Happy Planning!
