Need some opinions!!Fam of 5 staying at POR in Feb. but would LOVE to stay in the FW Cabins. Due to budget we can either stay at POR w/DDP or Cabins w/o DDP? Are the cabins worth the extra money..since not much time is spent in room??

    Michelle:

I'm a big fan of Fort Wilderness and the cabins, but I'm also one of Port Orleans' biggest cheerleaders!

The full-size kitchen at the fort can really help you maximize your budget when it comes to meals.  They even have a grill on the porch.  I think you'll also find that most folks that stay in the cabins appreciate all that Fort Wilderness has to offer: from its trail rides and fishing to the free campfire with Chip 'n' Dale.  Our family has even spent a vacation there and not even visited the theme parks!  Additionally, you didn't mention how old everyone is in your family, but keep in mind that the trundle bed at Port Orleans is only meant for an elementary-age child, whereas the space you have in the cabins allows you the privacy of a bedroom and everyone gets a bed.

Both resorts have a boat: Port Orleans' travels to Downtown Disney and the fort's heads to Magic Kingdom.  So to me, the choice would come down to how old my children are.  If they are young and space is not an issue, and they will really enjoy many of the character meals the park's offer, I'd go with Port Orleans.  If they are older and you'd like a little down time at the resort--along with some space--AND don't mind cooking a few meals to make the price fit your pocketbook, Fort Wilderness gets my vote.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Whitney, Mississippi

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
