Ahoy there, Kathryn! Welcome aboard planDisney, and thank you for sailing my way with your question about ECVs! I see your sail date is just around the corner, so let's fill the sails and prepare to make way!
While I have never personally rented an ECV or wheelchair for a Disney Cruise Line vacation, I do know that there are several important things to know when it comes to embarking on the Disney Fantasy:
- You must provide your own wheelchair or other mobility aid or arrange for the rental, delivery, and pickup of that device to and from the ship on your own. While there isn't a preferred vendor I was able to find several that rent and deliver to Port Canaveral by searching "Port Canaveral ECV Rental!"
- It is recommended that you sail with someone who can physically assist you when necessary. Certain activities, like using a tender boat to visit a Port of Call or accessing a pool, require Guests to transfer out of their wheelchairs.
- Due to safety regulations, wheelchairs, scooters, strollers and other personal belongings may not be stored in public passageways and must be stored inside staterooms or a designated public storage area. These areas are typically near the Midship elevator lobbies!
Beyond that, ordinarily, If you plan to travel with a wheelchair or mobility aid,
Disney Cruise Line Special Services requests that you contact them ahead of time so they can assist you with any necessary arrangements. While that usually means submitting the
Special Services Request Form 60-days before your sailing, with yours approaching so quickly, I would be sure to call them directly as soon as you can at (407) 566-3602!
I hope that helps you set a course for the quickest way to an ECV reservation, Kathryn! Thank you so much for your question, and if any others surface as your final preparations take shape, please drop us another line here at planDisney!
Here's to fair winds, following seas, and smooth sailing!
Andrew
