Hi, Teresa! Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney!
Like you, I am also the parent of a child with autism. I've been bringing my son, who is now a teenager, to
Walt Disney World Resort since he was a preschooler. One of the reasons why my family returns to Walt Disney World Resort year after year is that they always go above and beyond to make the magic accessible to everyone. There are many services available to help
Guests with disabilities, including
cognitive needs such as autism. One of these accommodations is Disability Access Service (DAS).
DAS is an accommodation intended for Guests who, due to a disability, cannot wait in a typical queue environment. Currently, preregistration for DAS via a live video chat is only available for Guests residing in the United States and Canada. Guests from other countries may stop by
Guest Relations when they arrive at one of the Walt Disney World theme parks to speak to a Cast Member about registering for DAS. The registration process for DAS is quick and easy. You will not need to provide any type of medical report when registering. You will simply need to answer a few questions about how your daughter's disability affects her capacity to wait in an attraction queue. The Cast Members will help you determine if DAS or any other services would be a good fit for your daughter.
As you get ready for your Walt Disney World Resort visit, you might find this
Guide for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities to be helpful. If you have any
additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask. My fellow planDisney panelists and I would love to help you and your family have the most magical vacation ever!
See ya real soon!
Samantha
