    I need help reserving rides.

Hey there, Chad, and welcome to planDisney! Your visit to the Walt Disney World Resort is approaching quickly, and it's great to see you here putting the final touches on your planning. Trust me, all of the planning will be worth it once you’re inside that special Disney "bubble".

Chad, the previous Fastpass+ system has been replaced with the Disney Genie Service. With Fastpass+, Guests used to reserve their rides in advance. However, that process has changed a bit with the new Disney Genie Service. No worries though, everyone is still trying to figure out how to understand this blue floating guy and who exactly let him out of his lamp. I'm not sure about you, but I don't remember rubbing any lamps!

I believe that Disney's Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes are the solutions for your needs. With both of these services, Guests can reserve a designated time to experience their desired attraction through the Lightning Lane Entrance queue. So if you haven’t already, I recommend adding the Genie+ option to your Theme Park Ticket purchase. I will discuss both options separately below in an attempt to not confuse you - notice I said attempt.

Genie+ is a paid option that allows you to request an arrival window for certain attractions throughout the Theme Parks. Guests access their selected attractions through the Lightning Lane queue and typically have shorter wait times than the standard queue lines. With Disney's Genie+ Service, Guests can reserve their first lightning lane entrance starting at 7 a.m. the day of their Theme Park Visit. You can make an additional reservation after you use your first Genie+ entrance or 2 hours after park opening, whichever occurs first. You can use this time frame to continue making reservations throughout the remainder of the day. I recommend that you reserve a Lightning Lane entrance as close to Theme Park open as possible for your first reservation. This way you can choose your next reservation earlier and not have to wait our the 2 hour time limit.

Individual Lightning Lanes are basically Genie+ for the two most popular attractions in each park. Similar to above, Individual Lightning Lane purchases start at 7 a.m. the day of your Theme Park visit, but only for Guests staying in a Disney Resorts Collection hotel. Guest staying off-property can purchase their first Individual Lightning Lane Entrance at the Theme Park opening time. Further, Individual Lightning Lane purchases are available for all Guests - with or without the Disney Genie+ service. Guests are allowed to purchase two Individual Lightning Lanes per day.

Here are the steps that I follow to grab reservations for my family:

    Open the MyDisneyExperience app.
Navigate to the Disney Genie Service in the app
Select the "Tip Board" and make sure the park is correct (it always defaults to Magic Kingdom Park for me each time I open the app)
Locate the attraction you would like to reserve
Choose "Book Experience" under the Disney Genie+ option
Confirm your party and follow the prompts

Be sure to review the reservation time on the final confirmation screen. In my experience, the time displayed initially is not always the same when you reach the final step.

For purchasing your Individual Lightning Lanes, you can follow the steps outlined above and choose "Purchase" under the Individual Lightning Lane option for your attraction instead of "Book Experience".

I hope this helps, Chad! If you have more questions, feel free to stop back by and ask me!

    To infinity and Beyond,
