I need help planning the best experience possible for a father with cancer and his family. His girls are 6 and 4. We were planning a trip for September 2011, but feel that we are running out of time. Where do I start?

First, let me express how sorry I am to hear about this young family man. I also salute you for helping this family plan a memorable time together.

You'll first need to pick your dates. Keep in mind that if you're watching your budget, Value Season is from mid-January through mid-February. I'd recommend avoiding mid-March through April for Spring Break.

Next, a hotel. Disney offers many. With children age 4 and 6, look at the Polynesian or Contemporary which are on the monorail near the Magic Kingdom.

Then check out the calendars on the www.disneyworld.com site. I like to choose my parks ahead of time, staying clear of Early Magic Hours, as those days bring bigger crowds, and picking the days I know there will be a night parade at Magic Kingdom.

Then, your dining. The Basic Dining Plan keeps things uncomplicated. And with two children, I find it a good bargain as one Character Meal can cost $20 or more for a child, but one entire day on the plan for a child is half that.  You'll need to make reservations for Character meals at 407-939-3463.  For the girls, I'd go for a princess meal at Akershus or 1900 Park Fare, the ever-popular Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace with Pooh, Hollywood & Vine at Disney's Studios and breakfast at Tusker House to see Mickey in his safari gear.

If you need to narrow down your choices or want more help, feel free to come back and ask me via my bio page--or any of the other moms. We certainly want this trip to be magical.

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
