I need help planing my first visit with my family first time being there.

    Hello, Maria!

Welcome to planDisney! I am beyond thrilled that you are planning your first visit to Disneyland Resort! Some of my family's most cherished memories were created while visiting the Happiest Place on Earth, and I am happy to help your family make their own special memories.

Since you want to visit Disneyland in May, I recommend purchasing your tickets and making your theme park reservations now if you have not done so already. Both a valid theme park ticket and a park reservation are needed to enter the theme parks. You can buy tickets and make park reservations at the same time on the Disneyland website. Guests can choose between One Park Per Day Tickets or Park Hopper Tickets. There are two different theme parks at Disneyland Resort - Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. Park Hopper Tickets allows Guests to visit both theme parks on the same day (subject to availability). My family always purchases Park Hopper Tickets, as we like starting the day in one park and then enjoying the evening in the other park.

After purchasing your tickets, I recommend reviewing the list of restaurant locations at Disneyland. Dining reservations are available up to 60 days in advance and can be made on the Disneyland website. Table-service restaurants are well-loved and book up quickly, so I would make reservations as soon as they become available. With its Pixar theming and fantastic food, Lamplight Lounge is my favorite restaurant at Disneyland. I also love the atmosphere at Blue Bayou Restaurant, which is located inside the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Other favorite dining locations include Carnation Cafe, Cafe Orleans, and "Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park" at Plaza Inn. We usually schedule one table-service meal per day, as it allows us to take a break from walking and enjoy a meal together.

The Disneyland mobile app is a helpful planning tool for your visit! Before your trip, I suggest reviewing the park maps to decide which attractions are at the top of your "must-do" list. We usually prioritize 3-5 attractions or experiences each day, and then everything else is a bonus! On the app, you can filter attractions by thrill factor, age, height, interests, and more. The "Filter" option can be found at the top of the map in the app.

If you would prefer to have a list of recommended attractions and dining locations created for you, you can let the Genie make a plan for you. In the app, select "Get Started Now" on the main page. The Genie will ask you several questions about your interests and preferences and then create a custom list for your family.

During our trips to Disneyland, we always use the app to view wait times, mobile order food, and make Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane reservations. Disney Genie+ is a paid service that lets you skip the standby lines on many attractions. My family uses it on every visit!

Maria, I hope this information was helpful. You are welcome to contact me directly if you have additional questions! Have a wonderful visit to Disneyland Resort!
