Do I need a credit card for check in or can I use a debit card?

Greetings, Karen, and welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I think you have a great questions! I’ve checked into many Walt Disney World Resort Hotels solo, with family and friends, so I’ve seen the gamut of check-in options!

My best friend actually doesn’t have a credit card. She’s on a cash-only budget plan with her family that works really well for her spending, so when we vacation together, she can easily use  a debit card to check in to the Resort. She will then often visit the Front Desk each night or late afternoon and pay down her balance on her folio using her Disney Gift Cards that she has purchased and saved for her vacation (it’s her favorite way to budget!). When you use a debit card to check in, your folio will not charge each night unless you reach a $1500 spending amount. At that time, your card will charge. If you are using a major credit card, it will charge upon checkout.

Did you know you can check you spending and folio charges in the mobile My Disney Experience account now? Simply log in via your mobile device and you’ll see an option to review charges after clicking on your Disney avatar character. It’s a GREAT way to see where you are at any moment before you choose to snack on another Dole Whip or Orange Bird Swirl. Please let me know if I can help you navigate your check in to your resort, and have a magical vacation! ~ Lindsey P.
