Is it necessary to have ADR for all sit down meals? I know the character/special dining need them, but what about hotels, boardwalk, etc? It seems unrealistic that my family can know exactly what/where/when we will eat all dinners 6 months ahead!

Hello Elizabeth!  I hear what you are saying!  I think the answer depends on what time of year you are vacationing at Disney.  If you are vacationing during a busy/peak season or during any free dining promotions, you may want to strongly consider reservations for all your sit down meals.  And if there are ever any restaurants that are on your must-do list, I would also suggest you make reservations for those to avoid any disappointments.

If you want to try and wing it, just make sure you have a back-up plan in case there is no availability.  My luck at this approach has been about 50/50.  It seems I can usually get a table at some restaurants - whereas others, I've never been able to do so.

    Good luck!  Diane
