We are going to be in Nassau in March and considering an excursion to Atlantis. I’m wondering if it is an option to take a taxi to a public beach instead of doing an actual excursion, or if it’s better to book a Port Adventure offered through Disney Cruise

    Hi Jenny!

I’m so happy to hEAR that you will be sailing in March to the Bahamas. Based on the fact you are stopping in Nassau, I’m guessing you are either on the Disney Dream or the Disney Magic. Both ships are marvelous and will provide fun adventures at sea!

Disney Cruise Line has a bountiful assortment of Port Adventures at its various ports of call. Of course, Atlantis is a popular destination in Nassau, and there are many great choices in Bahamian Port Adventures.

Whether you choose to go to Atlantis or a public beach in Nassau, you certainly can book outside of Disney Cruise Line with an independent tour operator in Nassau. In fact, many tour guides are right at the Prince George Wharf where the ships dock.

But here are the two big reasons why I prefer to book my Port Adventures through Disney Cruise Line when possible: safety and peace of mind. I have absolute confidence that has Disney Cruise Line has vetted all the Port Adventures for safety. Moreover, if the ship's itinerary changes or if the excursion runs beyond the ship's all aboard time, Disney Cruise Line will wait or arrange complimentary transportation to the next port. That assurance is invaluable to me and takes all the stress off my shoulders. I sure don’t want to be that family running at the port as the ship sails away!

While some of the Port Adventures fill up quickly, I’d suggest you continue to check back until you set sail to see if a reservation becomes available. Guests do change their plans and that frees up spots. If you are still unable to book the Port Adventure you want, stop by the Port Adventures Desk upon boarding to check availability.

Cruise on back by the Disney Parks Moms Panel if you have more questions. Happy Sailing!
