Hi Rachel -
I have several ideas for you:
- Search this Moms Panel site with the term "Down Syndrome." Moms Panelist Darcie has a daughter with Down Syndrome and has answered many guest questions about how she deals with this unique situation. Several others panelists have also researched travel with Down Syndrome children and offer their advice as well.
- A great resource for you is a book called PassPorter's Open Mouse for Walt
Disney World and the Disney Cruise Line. This sells for approximately
$20 and is available through amazon.com and many larger bookstores.
Open Mouse gives incredibly detailed information for Disney guests with
any sort of challenge, from mobility issues to anxiety and allergies and everything in
between. You'll find an extremely detailed description of every ride and attraction at WDW and a listing of what types of difficulties you might expect give your particular challenges.
- You may qualify for a Guest Assistance card. Immediately upon your arrive at a WDW theme park, stop into the guest relations office located near the entrance. You can meet with a WDW cast member who will evaluate any special touring needs you might have. Depending on your situation, you may be able to have special considerations made, such as having a different entrance for some rides.
- You'll find more information on the WDW website in the area for Guests with Disabilities,
HERE.
Good luck and have a wonderful time on your trip!
