Hi John! Thanks for visiting planDisney.
Walt Disney World Resort continues to be committed to a welcoming and inclusive environment for all Guests. I've visited with family and friends with different disabilities, who utilized the services and resources offered by Walt Disney World Resort. So, I understand your concern as you prepare for your trip. We all want to enjoy the parks and minimize our group's challenges. Thankfully, Walt Disney World Resort has put a lot of effort into making your family's visit a success.
For some Guests, those resources include the
Disability Access Service (DAS) accommodation intended for Guests who can't wait in a traditional queue. While this has always been the intended use for DAS, there are some changes to the service, including DAS party size. Currently, DAS party size is limited to the DAS-registered Guest and 3 additional party members. You can bring your particular concerns about party size up in your online chat but do be aware there are other
resources and techniques you can use during your visit to experience the parks together. These tips can help more of your group to enjoy your favorite Attractions. That includes resources like Rider Switch, which my family uses when a member of our group can't or doesn't want to ride.
If you believe DAS is the right resource for your family, you can chat online with a Cast Member up to 30 days prior to your visit. I hope many of your questions about this service will be answered at that time. In-person registration won't be available any longer at the time of your visit, so it's important to put this chat on your to-do list before your departure. The DAS-registered Guest will also need to be present for a portion of the chat so that a photo can be taken. During this chat, you can address your needs and the Cast Member will determine eligibility for DAS. These online Cast Members can suggest additional services that might improve your family's experience as well. Every Guest's and family's needs are different, and the Cast Member can address your needs best through the online pre-arrival chat.
I suggest you visit the
Accessibility Services website for Guests' with disabilities, which has valuable guides and information you can review before your arrival. As you scroll down the page, you'll see a "Sensory Experience Details" link, which will take you to a guide you might find helpful. It includes details about Attractions, such as lighting effects, loud noises, darkness, or sudden movement, which might be good information to have as you curate your park experience.
Have a magical day!
Elizabeth
