Do myself and my party really need to have the magic bands in order to take advantage of the memory maker option for our pictures?

Hiya Hellen - welcome to planDisney!

Thanks for stopping by with your question for our team of panelists. We love to help Guests just like you plan your very own, very magical, Walt Disney World Resort vacations!

I'm excited to hear that you have a trip coming up next month! Fall is one of my favorite times of year to visit Mickey and his pals - the beginning of the festive holiday season.

The Disney Photopass Service's Professional Photographers are such an important part of any Disney vacation. They're the ones that capture our magical memories so we can relive them for a lifetime! When you combine their skills with Memory Maker, you'll have access to all the amazing photos they capture, and usually a few more surprises. Memory Maker is always a great idea and helps you focus on making memories instead of worrying about getting great photos - it will all be taken care of for you!

Hellen, a MagicBand is not required to use Memory Maker, but I do think having one is a good idea. If you choose not to use a MagicBand during your visit, you will be able to use your Key to the World Card (i.e., your Theme Park Ticket) or you can use your compatible mobile device and the My Disney Experience Mobile App or MagicMobile Service to help PhotoPass photographers link the pictures they're taking of you to your account. I think the convenience of tapping a MagicBand is worth it, but it is not required.

For Attraction photos and videos, some fancy technology is used to link those to your account. A MagicBand or MagicBand+ will do the trick, or you can set up your compatible mobile device with Bluetooth® technology to do the same thing with the My Disney Experience Mobile App. In my experience, this works well, but my personal preference is still to use a MagicBand. If you're staying at a Disney Resorts Collection Hotel, a MagicBand also serves as a convenient room key, and there are lots of other uses while you're in the park. To be honest, it's just more convenient to not have to open up your phone so much.

I hope this information is helpful as you continue your planning journey. You can stop by any time with additional questions! Also, as you make your magical plans, be sure to include the newest thrill at Magic Kingdom Park – TRON Lightcycle / Run presented by Enterprise!

    See ya real soon!
