My mum and I are coming from Australia in Jan 2023 so I know we can't buy magic bands in advance. What do we need to do with our passes to be able to enter the parks? Can we just show the barcodes? We've never been to DisneyWorld before.

Hey there Morganna and welcome to planDisney!

First visits to the Walt Disney World Resort are always so special and I'm so glad I get to help you make yours as magical as possible. And mother/daughter trips are just the best. My favorite vacation so far is the few days I spent with my mom at Disney's Riviera Resort. Let's get you and mama ready for an adventure!

There are a couple of options for you to make entering the Disney Parks super easy for you and your mother. The first is to use Disney MagicMobile Service. Now, this handy dandy option will make it possible for y'all to enter the parks using your mobile devices. In your My Disney Experience app, look for A New Way to Access the Magic on the home screen. Tap the Set Up a Pass button to begin. You can then Set Up Your Pass and choose one of the fun designs. I'm currently celebrating my love for snacks with the DOLE Whip option. Follow the rest of the prompts and you'll be able to add your new Disney MagicMobile pass to the digital wallet of your mobile device.

Another option would actually be a bit of an extra fun shared experience for you and mom to do together. Y'all could always wait until your arrival to shop for your MagicBands. My goddaughter and I did and made a magical moment out of it. We then linked our new purchases in the My Disney Experience app by tapping the three-lined icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. We chose MagicBands and More from the presented options. Link Your MagicBand or Card is the next step and then your can touch your MagicBand to your mobile device to link it.

Pro-tip: While traditional MagicBands are definitely still a fun tool for your vacation, we opted to go with the new MagicBand+ option. Not only does this new version of the accessory still have all of the old functions like entering your Disney Resorts Collection hotel room and the Disney Parks, but it also has some new interactive functions as well. You and your mom will be able to wave and interact with the Disney Fab 50 Character Collection statues around the parks and become a part of nighttime spectaculars like Harmonious and Disney Enchantment.

Morganna, I'm wishing you all the pixie dust in the world on this trip with your mom. If you have any other questions, please feel free to come back for another chat!

    Happy planning!
