Hi Cynthia! Welcome to planDisney, and welcome to the Sunshine State, neighbor! You’re going to love living close to the magic, and especially getting to enjoy those
exclusive Florida resident offers!
Here’s the good news. According to Disney’s official policy, if you became a Florida resident after you booked your trip, it is sometimes possible to apply a Florida resident rate to an existing reservation, even if it’s already paid in full. It’s not automatic, but it can absolutely be worth asking. You’ll need to
contact Disney directly and request that your reservation be re-priced using any Florida resident offers that are available for your travel dates and resort at the time you call.
Some important things to have in hand so you’re ready when you call: You’ll need
proof of Florida residency, usually a Florida driver’s license or state ID in the name of the Guest claiming the discount. As far as your fiancé goes, only the Guest using the Florida resident rate needs to show residency. Your fiancé would not need to provide proof unless you were both planning to claim the resident rate.
It’s also good to remember that Florida resident offers are subject to availability and may not apply to every resort or room category. If a resident rate is available and it lowers the cost of your already paid-off trip, Disney might be able to adjust the price and refund the difference. The key is reaching out before your travel dates and having your residency documentation ready.
Be sure to reach out to Disney’s reservations line or use the chat feature through your
My Disney Experience app before your trip dates, so a cast member can look at your exact booking and walk you through your options. This will be one of those “it never hurts to ask” situations, and sometimes the savings are a really nice and pixie dusted surprise!
I hope this helps, Cynthia, and welcome to the Florida Disney life. If you have more questions as you get closer to your trip, we’re always happy to help you sprinkle in a little planning magic, so don’t hesitate to come back and see us.
Wishing a new happily ever after in the Sunshine State! ~Emille
