My mother is retired army and wants to take me, my hubby, and her 2 grandkids to Disney. Are we ok to use tickets that she will activate at the gate, OR do we need to purchase our own? I'm a veteran, but do not have an active duty ID anymore.

Hi there, Sandra! Welcome to planDisney! Thank you for bringing your question to us today.

First, I'd like to sincerely thank you for your service. Service members and their families truly understand the meaning of commitment and dedication. As a military spouse, I know that the best gift is quality time, and I personally think there's no better place to spend that time together than at Walt Disney World Resort! Not only that, but you're coming at a very special time with The World's Most Magical Celebration in full swing, where it will feel like magic is waiting for you around every corner.

Walt Disney World Resort loves to salute its military families with great rates on Disney Resorts Collection hotels and Disney Military Salute Tickets! Eligible Service Members are active, retired, and 100% disabled members of the military and their spouses. To recieve a special rate on Disney Resorts Collection hotels, all you need to do is call a Cast Member! They'll be happy to let you know which Disney Resort hotels are available on your desired dates. My best tip would be to stay a little flexible on the resorts and dates you're looking at. Sometimes a whole new world of possibilities can open up just by shifting your dates by a day or two!

For theme park tickets, Eligible Service Members are able to purchase up to six Disney Military Salute Tickets per year. Since valid military identification is required at the time of purchase and use, the Eligible Service Member must be traveling with the travel party. It sounds like your mother, being a retired service member, would be able to purchase these tickets for herself and your family! What a wonderful way to begin a truly magical vacation!

Disney Military Salute Tickets can be purchased by your mother either through her local base or through Shades of Green. Personally, we like to order our tickets through Shades of Green because they arrive already activated and ready to be used. No matter how you purchase your tickets, you'll want to make sure that you take two important steps: link your tickets to your My Disney Experience account and make your Theme Park Reservations using the Disney Park Pass system. You can even check the Theme Park Reservation Availability Calendar to make sure that your desired parks are available for the dates you're looking at!

Once you have your Disney Military Salute Tickets linked to your account and your Theme Park Reservations made through the Disney Park Pass system, I'd recommend taking some time to download and explore the My Disney Experience app. A little like holding a magic wand in your hand, you'll be able to check wait times for attractions, view park maps, and even mobile order food. I love knowing my meals and snacks will be ready for me before I ever feel a rumbly in my tumbly!

I hope I was able to help you with your question today, Sandra! If anything else pops up, please visit us again. Remember - you've got a friend in me!

    See ya real soon!
