Hi, Yvette. Let me say that I think it’s so nice that you are helping your mother experience the magic of Disneyland again. I feel like a kid every time I visit, and I hope your 84-year-old mother does, too. Disneyland does a great job of creating a kind and inclusive environment for all guests. The accommodations for guests with mobility issues will allow her to access rides and attractions with as much comfort as possible. Let’s get to planning!
If you have a handicap placard, a cast member at the parking lot entrance can direct you to the appropriate parking spots. The best way to get around the parks while conserving your energy is to rent an
Electric Conveyance Vehicle (ECV). Disneyland offers ECVs to rent for $60 a day, though the price is subject to change, and they are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. You can find the rental window to the right of the Disneyland entrance.
Now, let the sights and sounds of Main Street, U.S.A. take your mother back. Catch a tune from the Straw Hatters, snap a photo with her favorite character, and enjoy an ice cream from
Gibson Girl before diving into the attractions. Also, stop and ask a friendly cast member behind a counter or register for a celebration pin. Maybe you’re just celebrating family today, but it’s a great way to let people know why you’re at the parks!
When you’re ready to hit the rides, speak to a cast member to discuss your needs for boarding. Attractions can accommodate guests in a variety of ways to help them board safely and comfortably. The most important thing is that if your mother wants to ride, ask if she can be accommodated. The cast members are there to help!
While I’m not sure what time of year you’re visiting, take a look at the attractions that are indoors. I recently escaped the sunny sidewalks of Main Street to the Opera House to watch
Walt Disney: A Magical Life. This beautiful tribute to the man who started it all was exactly what we needed to get in the Disney spirit and beat the heat. Also, make a dining reservation to slow down and enjoy a meal away from the noise and hubbub. My favorite table service restaurant is Cafe Orleans. A cup of chicken gumbo and the Monte Cristo Sandwich is heaven!
Another fun experience with your mom would be a guided tour. The
Disneyland Railroad Guided Tour gives guests the chance to relax in Walt’s parlour caboose, the Lilly Belle. This exclusive part of the tour allows you to experience the space that Walt used to host stars and dignitaries.
My last recommendation is to simply capture the moments. With
Disney PhotoPass Service, you’ll have the help of expert Disney photographers at special locations around the park to capture the memories forever. You can link photos to your Disneyland Mobile App to view and purchase as downloads after your trip.
Be sure to check the Service for
Guests with Mobility Needs page to see more accommodations that Disneyland can offer. Yvette, this trip will mean so much to your mother. I hope every moment is magical. Please feel free to bring more of your planning questions to us at
planDisney. Have a magical day!
