Welcome to
planDisney, Hannah! I'm so glad to be able to answer your question today.
Let's get to the point (see what I did there?): yes, some of those plants in the Ranchos section of
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort are indeed spiky. That area of the resort is themed to reflect the arid beauty of the American Southwest and northern Mexico, so you'll find landscaping that includes things like cacti, agave, succulents, and other desert-loving plants. They're absolutely gorgeous and really help set the scene, but just like in nature, many of those plants do come with their own set of natural defenses. Translation: some of them are
definitely sharp!
That said, there's no need to worry. The cacti and other spiky plants are thoughtfully placed in rock gardens, decorative planters, and landscaped areas that are set away from walkways and paths. So, unless you go wandering off the path or get extra curious and decide to reach out for a little poke (which I don't recommend!), you won't accidentally brush up against anything sharp.
The landscaping at Coronado Springs is one of its most charming features. Each section of the resort has a different vibe, and the Ranchos area really nails that desert oasis feel. It's peaceful, scenic, and beautifully lit at night, too. Just remember that when it comes to plants that look like they might be spiky, they probably are!
So enjoy the scenery, snap some pretty photos, and take in all the Southwest-inspired charm. But maybe admire those prickly plants from a distance. They're there to be looked at, not touched!
Have a magical day, Hannah!
