Father and Child on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

I will be 4 months pregnant at DW & we have a 5 & 8 year old. Will we be able to use “Rider Switch” for Dad to take each child on big attractions I can’t, so neither child has to sit alone? How does that work with G+ & lightening lane?

Hi Jessica! We're so happy to see you back at planDisney! Congratulations on your growing family!

The Rider Switch Service has been a lifesaver for my family at the Walt Disney World Resort. I have two children right around the same age as yours, and there are certain rides that not everyone agrees to go on together. Thankfully, Disney has thought of every possible scenario and has made using this service a breeze.

Dad will absolutely be able to ride the big attractions with each child. Below is how the process will work:

    • The first thing to do once you arrive at the attraction is to bring your entire family to the Cast Member located at the front of the ride line.
    • The Cast Member will ask who in the party will like to ride first and who will ride second. They will then scan the MagicBands (or park ticket) of the riders who will go second to allow access upon return.
    • Dad and the first rider will then get in the standby line while you and the second rider are free to explore the rest of the park. (This is the biggest perk in my opinion!)
    • Once they have finished the ride, Dad will need to get rider #2 and head back to the Cast Member at the front of the ride line. The Cast Member will scan the MagicBands (or park ticket) of each rider and, instead of waiting in line this time around, they will be able to utilize the Lighting Lane entrance and bypass the standby queue.

For the most part, using the Rider Switch Service with Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lane purchases will basically work the same way as described above. The biggest difference is the first group of riders will not have to wait in the standby line at all and will be able to use the Lightning Lane entrance as designed. Keep in mind that each rider will need to have purchased these services and have the correct arrival window available to ride.

Note: For Individual Lightning Lane purchases, Dad will only need to have purchased once to ride with both children.

Jessica, I hope this helps answer your question. If you can think of any additional questions prior to your departure, please reach back out to us at planDisney!

    Have a magical vacation!
