Ahoy there, Patricia!
Welcome aboard planDisney! First off, it’s awesome to hear your recovery is going so well that you’re already setting your sights on the Castaway Cay 5K. That’s a fantastic goal and a great way to celebrate how far you’ve come.
If you’ve participated in the
Castaway Cay 5K in the past, prior to 2020 or so, you might remember it being a more structured event with set start times and a big group heading out together. These days, it’s much more relaxed and flexible, which really lets each Guest go at their own pace and enjoy the experience in their own way.
That flexibility is great news for your question. Since there isn’t a large group starting all at once anymore, using a walking stick for stability is generally allowed. In the past, that might have been more of a concern with tighter spaces and lots of runners, but now you can take your time and focus on what feels comfortable and safe for you.
When you’re ready to get started, you can stop by the bike rental stand near Flippers and Floats and the Pelican Point tram stop. A friendly Cast Member can give you a quick overview of the route if you’d like, and then you’re off on your island adventure. The course is pretty flat, but it can get warm, so taking it at your own pace is definitely the way to go.
After you finish, be sure to head back to the bike rental stand to pick up your Castaway Cay 5K medal. And if you’re anything like me, that’s the perfect moment to celebrate with a stop at Cookie’s BBQ for a well-earned ice cream, because nothing beats a cool treat after conquering
your own island adventure.
I hope this
helps you feel confident and ready to take on the Castaway Cay 5K at your own pace. Wishing you continued success with your recovery and an amazing time on the island.
Sea ya real soon as springtime magic carries us from one adventure to the next,
Dustin
