Ahoy there, Christine!
Welcome aboard planDisney! I'm so excited to hear you're planning an
island escape to Castaway Cay with your tiny cruiser—it’s truly one of the most magical places! Your little one is about to have a sun-soaked day full of splashes, sandcastles, and smiles.
Now, about those paddle boats—while I wish I could say, “the more the merrier,” Disney does require that Guests be at least 5 years old to enjoy the
paddle boats at Boat Beach. Guests ages 5–15 must be accompanied by their guardian and may ride with someone 16 or older, and everyone will be fitted with a life jacket before setting sail. I know that’s probably not the fairy-tale ending you were hoping for, but don’t worry—there’s still a treasure trove of other ways to enjoy your day on the island with your 14-month-old First Mate!
One fun option to consider is the
Glass Bottom Boat Scenic Voyage, a Port Adventure that gives you a peek into the underwater magic of the surrounding coral reef—without getting wet! While availability may vary by sailing, this adventure is open to all ages, so your little one can come along to spot sea critters and colorful fish. Just imagine the look of wonder if they see Nemo’s friends swimming below! Nemo is not usually found in the Caribbean, but maybe he is on another adventure and will make an appearance!
If you're staying closer to shore, there’s plenty of pixie dust waiting there, too! My crew and I always love setting up in the Swimming Lagoon across from Cookie’s BBQ—it’s the perfect place for little ones to splash in the calm waters, with beach chairs, umbrellas, and even the occasional hammock nearby for a nap break (parents, I’m looking at you!).
A favorite hidden gem for toddler fun is Spring-A-Leak, the splash pad-style water play area located near the bike rentals. It’s the perfect place to cool off and let your little explorer run around safely in a shaded, soft-surfaced space.
Speaking of exploring—
Castaway Cay is super stroller- and wagon-friendly! I highly recommend snagging one of the complimentary wagons from near Scuttle’s Cove or the Pelican Point tram stop. They’re first-come, first-served, and a great way to tow tiny travelers (and all their beach day gear) around the island in comfort. And if you’re feeling a little adventurous yourself, you can even walk or jog the Castaway Cay 5K with your mini first mate in tow and earn a fun medal!
And here’s one last option: some of the
bike rentals on the island come with a child seat on the back. If your little sailor loves the breeze in their hair and you’re hoping for a scenic cruise around the island, check with the bike rental crew early to see if one is available. They’re limited, but so much fun if you can snag one!
I hope this helps chart your course for a practically perfect day in paradise. Whether you're making a splash, exploring the island, or just soaking in that tropical breeze, I have no doubt you'll make magical memories together!
Sea ya real soon as May brings sunshine, magical ports, and maybe a Mickey bar or two,
Dustin
