About how much money should I estimate on spending on souveniers and attractions in the parks and downtown disney. Traveling with a 5 year old birthday boy and a 2 year old girl. Thanks.

Greetings, Sabrina, from a fellow New Jersey resident!

Budgeting while on vacation is a very personal matter.  Every family must make its own decision with regard to how much they can afford to spend on souvenirs.  However, that being said, I think it would be reasonable to set aside $50 for each of your children when you travel to Walt Disney World.  For that amount of money, they will be able to find something truly special.  Be sure to visit the World of Disney Store at Downtown Disney early in your stay because some of the best souvenirs can be found there.  They have incredible options for visitors of all ages - everything from stuffed animals to adorable outfits!

Rather than simply put your purchases on a credit card, it makes sense to show each child that you have an envelope with $50 cash for each of them.  Seeing the cash disappear from the envelope as they make a purchase is a very effective lesson for them with regard to budgeting.  There are so many spectacular souvenirs to be found at Walt Disney World, it's important for them to think about what they really want before they make their final selections.  As my parents often reminded me while on vacation decades ago, when the spending money is gone, it's gone!  So choose wisely.

You also asked about the cost of attractions at Walt Disney World.  The great news is that typically there are not separate charges for attractions within the four main theme parks or two water parks.  All activities are included with the cost of general admission.

Have a magical trip with your children and be sure to let us know if you need any additional advice.  We'd be delighted to help.

    Best wishes,
    Jill
