Hi Mona Leigh! We will have a non-park day as part of our DW trip and are considering Downtown Disney for that day. One thing I am interested in is the tethered balloon ride. Could you tell me how high it goes and what sights we will see while aloft?

    Hi Kara,

I went on the Characters in Flight tethered hot-air balloon ride at Downtown Disney on a recent trip.  I really enjoyed it!  Just a warning - it is definitely a ride for which you need to not be afraid of heights!

The balloon rises to about 400 feet off the ground.  An operator is in the balloon with you and will tell you what is happening- when you're lifting off, when you've reached your top height, when you're starting your descent, and so on.  From the balloon, you can see all of Downtown Disney.  Looking off into the distance, you can view many Walt Disney World resorts and parks.  You are able to walk around the large basket of the balloon to get a 360-degree view.  We went up at night and our time aloft happened to coincide with the Illuminations: Reflections of Earth nighttime spectacular show at Epcot.  It was absolutely amazing to be able to see those fireworks from such a unique perspective.  The ride lasts about ten minutes.

I hope this gives you some good information on the Characters in Flight ride, Kara.  Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
