    Hi moms, Just curious we are arriving Jan 12 and I overheard that the marathon is on at the same time, can you tell me how this impacts the disney world in general. Park business, traffic etcc.... Thanks, love the site. Can't wait to come.

    Hi, Michel!

    You are correct about the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, which is scheduled to take place from January 10-January 13, 2013.

    You'll notice some impact here and there, if you're looking for it, Michel. Because we know the usual bus routes, we've noticed a detour once or twice during a marathon weekend, taking us in through a back entrance of a park that is not usually seen by Guests. Had we not known the usual route, however, we may have never even noticed.

    More recently, my son and I stayed at a host resort for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler and only noticed lots of runners assembling in the lobby just prior to race time. Similarly, we attended an after-party in Disney's Hollywood Studios where many of the runners stayed to celebrate once finished. Aside from seeing many runners on attractions and on the resort bus on the way "home" from such events, we really never notice much of a difference while touring the parks and resorts.

    Bottom line? Don't worry about anything that may pop up during your upcoming stay in WDW; Cast Members are well-skilled in keeping inconveniences for both runners and regular Guests alike. You're in for a wonderful time!
