My mom and I are traveling to WDW october 2nd for my 18th b-day. We are staying until the 9th, but are looking into extending until the 11th/12th. Anyway, right now we are staying at PO-R. Should we look into switching to PO-FQ? Which do you ladies prefer?

    Phyllis:

October brings milder weather and the theme parks dressed for fall, and this makes it one of our family's favorite times of the year to visit. We've stayed at both Port Orleans: Riverside and the French Quarter in the fall. You'll enjoy either resort, but here are a few differences:

    • Port Orleans: French Quarter provides a more intimate resort experience. A walk from the food court to even the farthest building on its perimeter takes no more than about 5 to 7 minutes. As the smallest resort on Disney property this makes it appealing to some who don't enjoy long walks to the bus stop if you are relying solely on Disney transportation. Its theme is spot-on, reminiscent of the garden district of New Orleans with cobblestone streets and iron railings.
    • Port Orleans: Riverside exudes the ambiance of the South. I would recommend its Magnolia Bend section for you and your mom over the casual feel of the moss-laden Alligator Bayou. A water view room is my choice here. Its pool, in my opinion, is a step up from the French Quarter, but since you're not bringing little ones it may not be a factor. The resort is much larger than POFQ with several bus stops instead of just one. POR also houses the resort's campfire and carriage rides along with the entertaining YeHaa Bob.

Both resorts have boat access to Downtown Disney and the rooms are similar in layout. To me, it simply comes down to whether you enjoy walking and want more of the amenities at POR or the theme and intimate feel of POFQ.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
