I am a mom traveling with my son who will have just turned 12. We’re making a quick three-night trip. Can you offer some must sees/dos for his age. We haven’t been since he was 6! He’s not into Star Wars, so that won’t be important to him. Thanks!

Hey there, Melanie! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I’m so glad you stopped by with your question. What an amazing vacation that you and your son will share later this year! As a mom to an almost 10-year old, I completely understand wanting to tailor the experience to your son’s interests, and I would love to help you find some things that would thrill him!

First, if your son likes roller coasters, you could focus on riding some or all of them, and there may be many he has never experienced! I would recommend Slinky Dog Dash in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom Park, and Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. While at Animal Kingdom, check out Pandora – The World of Avatar, and consider riding Avatar Flight of Passage. Regardless of whether he has seen the movie Avatar or not, you are both sure to appreciate this breathtaking flight atop a banshee, which is a fully immersive experience unlike any other! Also, since you’ll be visiting in summer, I would recommend a visit to one of the Disney Water Parks. This is often one of our very favorite days during our Walt Disney World vacations! We especially love the Crush ‘n’ Gusher water coaster at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon! There’s even two-person inner tubes for you to experience it together! Lastly, if he is a sports fan, consider a visit to the NBA Experience at Disney Springs where he will get to experience hands-on basketball activities of all kinds! Consider capping it off with some Dining and Shopping at Disney Springs, completed with a stop at Disney’s Candy Cauldron for the most scrumptious handmade desserts at Walt Disney World!

Melanie, I hope these tips help you put together a trip that is sure to be one your son cherishes forever. However, I am sure that having a special time with you will make whatever the two of you do together that much more magical! Please do not hesitate to come back to see us anytime we can be of help with your planning in the future!

    See ya real soon!
