My dh, mom and I are thinking about taking my 2 and 5 year old boys on the Medit cruise in 2010. Has anyone done this with children this age? Thoughts? Are there shore excursions for this age in Europe?

    Hi!

My family has not sailed the Mediterranean yet. We are booked to sail the Med with Mickey next May.

Yes, children can do Europe. You'll just need a little extra planning. Your choice of a Disney cruise certainly works best for families with young children. After all, Disney caters to the young and young-at-heart.

DCL knows that parents need help keeping kids entertained on long shore excursions. So, in the past, Disney has given kids workbooks correlating to the next Port-of-Call. You'll also want to pick and choose which ports to explore and realize that some days, it might be more relaxing to swim at the Mickey Pool.

Palermo, Italy is a great port for exploring because of the city's close proximity to the port. In the past, tours such as "Palermo with Kids" have been offered and you are sure to find well thought out excursions for kids in 2010 as well.

When planning your excursions, consider half-day tours. Choose between morning or afternoon according to when you think your kids will be most refreshed. Try to find a balance between touring historic sites and more kid-appropriate adventures such as attending a puppet show. Also, keep in mind that probably the most enticing part of the cruise for your boys may be the Mickey Pool. Use the pool as an incentive!

Select at least one tour to enjoy while the kids are happily entertained on board in Flounder's Nursery and the Oceaneer Club.

Your family may be tempted to try to see and do it all. Instead, slow down and soak up the magic. Go to a beach, watch yachts sail by, head back to the ship for a Mickey ice cream bar. You'll remember these small magical moments!
