My mom and I are staying at Vero Beach in September. We are so excited! I was wondering if we would have the potential of seeing sea-turtles hatching while we are there? Also do we need a reservation to talk to a conservationist? Thank you!

    Hi there Breanna,

Thanks for bringing another great question to us here at planDisney! We’re always happy to assist Guests with planning a trip to a Disney Destination and it looks like you’re heading to one of my family’s favorite resorts - Disney’s Vero Beach Resort! We have stayed at the resorts a few times in July and had a blast! We were there for the Tour de Turtles (held annually on the last weekend in July) which was quite exciting.

I chatted with a friendly Cast Member at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and asked about the likelihood of seeing turtles later in September. She said that while it isn’t impossible (there will still be a few nests erupting), the nesting season is busiest in June and July. This is when you’ll see many night turtle walks and the Disney Conservation Team Wildlife is out every morning taking inventory of any new turtle nests and then will mark them off with stakes and tape. She recommended calling the resort a week or two before your visit and a Cast Member can let you know if there are any Turtle Tracks meets (currently at 8am on the beach in front of the resort) as well as any other turtle-related activities.

While I understand your heart is set on seeing turtles, if you miss them on the beach, you’ll still be able to see many around as a part of the resort’s decor! There are turtles hidden around the resort with some in plain site such as the stunning mosaic found set in the flooring of the front lobby. On our last visit, we watched while the mosaic was being carefully cleaned and refurbished - it is a beautiful piece of art!

There are plenty of things to keep you busy at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. My family loves spending time in the Mickey Mouse-shaped Pool and sliding down the Pirate’s Plunge Pool Slide - it’s one of their favorites of all the DVC resorts!  Port Holes Miniature Golf is a lot of fun (complimentary for DVC Members) or you can play tennis, bike, kayak or even fish! I recommend visiting the Front Desk for a copy of the week’s Recreation Guide so you can see all the resort’s offerings. Check out the Member Benefits that are available to DVC Members so you can enjoy the perks of your Disney Vacation Club Membership.

I hope this information helps with your vacation planning, Breanna. If you have any other questions, please visit us again at planDisney!
