Hello Kelly! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
My wife is an avid roller coaster fanatic and loves the thrills they provide, but will not step a foot near a simulation-style ride experience that simulates the movement while remaining in relatively the same position the entire time.
I bring my wife up as a frame of reference. If your mother has enjoyed simulator-style attractions such as
Star Tours at Disney's Hollywood Studios Theme Park or
Soarin' Around the World in Epcot, the attraction is very similar on
Flight of Passage at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
However, Flight of Passage is the most realistic and closed-in experience of any simulation ride that I have experienced as well. Each rider is secured to their own "banshee saddle" rather securely and Guests wear 3D glasses while feeling suspended above the ground. If your mother gets claustrophobic and is uncomfortable with simulators that do a marvelous job of replicating extreme movements, then she may not enjoy the experience. You do often forget while riding Flight of Passage that you are not actually moving very far and the free-falling feels very realistic.
If you have ever experienced the orange-level simulation at
Epcot's Mission Space, Flight of Passage feels less extreme than that but more exhilarating than a Star Tours or Soarin' experience. I also consider Flight of Passage less extreme than most of the roller coasters at Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks.
Have a Magical Flight!
