My mom, husband and I are running the princess in Feb 2013,we are wondering when the best time is to plan our vacation around the race based on crowds ect. We will have to young kids and want to be able to get a lot done without wait in long lines

Hi Candace!  The Princess half marathon is a great race!  Your family is going to love it!

If I were you, I would plan to stay the week after the race for your vacation.  Because of President's Day being the week before the race, it looks like it will be pretty crowded that week.  You can go to www.touringplans.com and they have a crowd calendar based on years of data.  Their predictions are very accurate.  The week following the race is expected to be significantly less crowded (over half).

I also prefer to have the "vacation" part after the race.  I have done it both ways, and find that I feel much more relaxed about walking around the parks and trying out different foods if I don't have a half marathon coming up.  You may be a little sore the day after your race, but walking around is a great way to keep from becoming stiff.

I hope this helps you!  Please let me know if you have any other questions!
