Hi, my mom is now handicapped. I was wondering which Disney hotel is best for accessibility and closeness to the parks. Also the chemo makes her very exhausted. Would we be able to leave a park for 2 hours and go back after she rested? Thank you

    Heigh-Ho Nick,

Welcome to planDisney, I can happily assist with your inquiry to make this Walt Disney World vacation a Practically Perfect trip for your mom and your entire family. Walt Disney World has gone above and beyond to make the experience, of visiting Walt Disney World, accessible to just about everyone. From complimentary Walt Disney World transportation (buses, monorails, water transportation, the Disney Skyliner) to attractions and shows, Guests who have mobility handicaps can still enjoy the magic. And if you need further information on how that looks for your mom feel free to ask me.

But which Walt Disney World Resort is best for your stay?  While I do not require handicap assistance, I am a cancer Thriver and Survivor and can relate to several rounds of chemo and have visited Walt Disney World in between treatments. I understand the need to rest but yet still feel like you are someplace else other than treatment. Truthfully, I would consider the following because they are closer to one of the four Walt Disney World Theme Parks and the Resort and Rooms made me feel like I was still able to enjoy the Magic of Walt Disney World.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
    Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
    Disney’s Contemporary Resort
    Disney’s Boardwalk Inn
    Disney’s Beach Club Resort
    Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

Honorable mentions go to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge because the Resorts are truly impeccably designed to transport you to a different experience and there are plenty of places to find a quiet spot and enjoy the moment. Honestly, Nick, I was at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge during my treatment and while it may not have been the closest to all of the Walt Disney World Theme Parks, I needed lots of rest time because I couldn’t keep up with my friends. Coming Home to the Resort was something I looked forward to because there was so much to see and do there even though I was not out in the parks. It was still truly a memorable and magical moment during I time I needed some. And, yes, if your mom has a Disney Park Pass reservation, she can enter, exit and renter that Walt Disney World Theme Park as many times as she like during that day.
