Hello. My mom has a handicap placard, and will be requesting disability access service. Should she also purchase the Genie + services? Thank you.

Hiya, Rolanda, and welcome back to planDisney

To help answer your question, I’ll first break down the differences between the two services. First, the Disneyland Resort offers Disability Access Service (DAS) to accommodate Guests who aren’t able to wait in a conventional queue due to a disability. Guests are issued a return time to come back to an attraction and enter through the Lightning Lane. Disney Genie+, on the other hand, is a paid service that allows Guests to use Lightning Lane entrances at a variety of attractions and experiences throughout the theme parks. It also includes unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads, too.

I’m happy to report that both DAS and Disney Genie+ can be used together to maximize your family’s time in the theme parks, Rolanda! Since you’ll be visiting in the summer, which tends to be a busier time, it could be beneficial for your family to also purchase Genie+. The nice thing about using this service is that you can decide whether or not to purchase it on a day-to-day basis. Genie+ can be purchased using your Disneyland app as soon as you and your family have entered Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park.

To use Disney Genie+, you can make selections one at a time using the Disney Genie interface on the Disneyland app. You’ll toggle between the “Tip Board” and “My Day” to make your plans. Once it’s your turn, head over to the Lightning Lane entrance within your designated window to scan your barcode to enter.

To register for DAS, you have two options. First, you can register at the Disneyland Resort upon arrival at City Hall (in Disneyland Park), Chamber of Commerce (in Disney California Adventure Park), or any Guest Information location. The second, newer option can be done up to 30 days before your visit, but no less than two days in advance. This new benefit of DAS is called DAS Advance, and it involves a live video chat with a Cast Member. During your registration chat, you’ll have the chance to book up to 2 one-hour return windows for select experiences, subject to availability. This is in addition to the regular DAS benefit of making return-time selections upon arrival at the Disneyland Resort.

I hope this information helps as you continue planning your July visit to the Disneyland Resort, Rolanda! Please stop by with any additional questions… we love making your family’s Disney dreams come true!

    Happy planning,
    Kristin
