Hi Myrna,
Disney World is a great place for people with special needs to visit. Cast Members try to be as accommodating as they can. I can't tell from your question if your mom is renting an electric wheelchair from a local vendor or plans to rent at the parks. The parks have manual wheelchairs and ECVs available for rent. Current rental fees are (always subject to change):
* $12 per day for wheelchairs at Theme Parks
* $12 per day plus a $100 refundable security deposit for wheelchairs at Downtown Disney
* $50 per day plus a $20 refundable security deposit for ECVs at Theme Parks
* $50 per day plus a $100 refundable security deposit for ECVs at Downtown Disney
Wheelchairs and ECVs must be returned to the park in which they are rented. Quantities are limited & depending on what time of year you are traveling, they may run out early. Advanced reservations are not accepted - they are rented on a first come basis.
Be sure to visit the
Guests with Disabilities section on the WDW website. There you'll find a section for
Guests with Mobility Disabilities which will give you a list of attractions that allow guests to remain in their wheelchairs and which ones require guests to transfer before boarding.
WDW strives to provide mainstream access to attractions whenever possible. However, accessibility for Guests with mobility disabilities varies within the parks. Be sure to pick up The Guide for Guests with Disabilities and Park Guide maps available at Guest Relations at each of the parks.
Please feel free to visit us with any other questions. Its our pleasure to assist you! Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison
