We will be at MK, AK& DHS in 5 days. Our son is 5 yrs old & 41" tall. There are some rides he is tall enough for, but not sure if appropriate/too scary for his age: Kali River Rapids, Dinosaur, BTMRailroad, Haunted Mansion, Pirates&stunt sho

    Hi Renee,

It will depend on your son. Is he a thrill seeker? Is he afraid of loud noises or the dark?  My 6 year old son is little timid & I try to talk to him about the ride so he'll know exactly what to expect.

If he likes getting really wet & doesn't mind being bumped around, he may love Kali River Rapids. Let him know that there will be times a big wave of water may splash right on top of him but he'll be secure in the seatbelt.

Dinosaur is a jerky ride & its loud. The dinosaurs are big & right there at you. If he's frightened by loud noises, avoid this ride.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is big fun. Tell him there aren't any big drops - just fast, smooth turns. There are some big hills that you climb but you don't drop straight down on the other side. There are also some places where it looks like boulders are falling on you. Reassure him that won't happen.

For Haunted Mansion, let him know its dark, nothing is real, nothing will grab him & you'll beside him the whole way. Its a little loud in the graveyard scene. He'll love the new Hitchhiking ghosts.

Pirates of the Caribbean has always been a favorite of my boys. There is a short (~14 ft drop) in total darkness that comes near the beginning of the ride. Hold onto him & laugh the whole way down. After that, its a light hearted awesome ride.

Both of the stunt shows at the Studios are awesome & most all kids love them. Let him know there are some loud parts & that they are all highly trained professionals.

You can also prepare by watching videos online. You can find homemade videos of almost every ride on YouTube. Remember kids can sense anxiety so part of his reaction may depend on your reaction to things. Laugh a lot & show him its okay to scream (good or bad) when he feels like it. Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
