Hi Lauren,
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I stayed in a
Garden Wing room at Disney’s Contemporary Resort for my birthday last year, and I had a blast. It was so nice to walk back to our room from Magic Kingdom Park, and my whole family could not get enough of the monorail running through the resort. You’re going to love it there.
While the resort rooms do have mini refrigerators, they don’t have freezer sections. If you’re wanting to freeze ice packs, my solution is to pack resealable bags (they really come in handy for so much when at Disney) and fill them with ice from the ice machine, which you’ll find on each floor in the Garden Wing. If you’re going in to the theme parks and will be using these baggies to keep food or drinks cold in a cooler, you can stop at a Quick-Service location to request ice. Please take a look at the Walt Disney World Resort
Park Rules to be sure you’re complying with cooler size and other rules, and note that loose ice is not allowed in the theme parks (contained in a resealable bag is fine).
Enjoy every storybook moment, Lauren! Make a stop at
Contempo Café for a flatbread pizza and the most gorgeous cupcakes, plus super-fun monorail views. One of my favorite moments of our stay was watching the
Happily Ever After fireworks from the Bay Lake Pool at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and then staying to watch the
Electrical Water Pageant float past. The wonder on my kids’ faces (okay, and mine too) was something I won’t ever forget.
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
