Hey there, hi there Jamie,
Thanks for stopping by planDisney for help with your first Walt Disney World vacation! I know everyone on the Panel is like me and hopes this is the start of many magical visits in the future.
I wish I could tell you for a fact that by the time you visit this summer that all of the character meet and greets will be available, and you'll be able to give Mickey a hug and have him sign your autograph book when he stops by your table at a character meal. Honestly, that's how it could be, we just have to wait and see. However, just because things are limited right now, doesn't mean that you won't have an amazing experience if things stay the same.
Character meet and greets are popping up all of the time. Right now, there are daily character sightings in Magic Kingdom with Mickey Mouse at Town Hall,
Princess Tiana and a "visiting princess" or Cinderella and a "visiting princess" in Fantasyland, and in Disney's Hollywood Studios you can meet Olaf. These one on one character greeting experiences are still socially distanced, and characters aren't signing autographs right now, but they do a really great job at interacting with guests.
Similarly, characters are starting to pop up throughout the parks. Most recently, I've seen Buzz Lightyear in Magic Kingdom, Goofy and Max in Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Mary Poppins, Belle, Joy, and Winnie the Pooh in EPCOT. They aren't necessarily on a schedule, so you just have to keep an eye out for characters, but they are around. Of course, you can always catch your favorite (and not so favorite) Star Wars characters in Hollywood Studios as well.
Character dining is also coming back. Last month we had breakfast at Tusker House where we got a chance to see Mickey, Goofy, Daisy, and Donald Duck. Each table had a chance to interact from a distance with the characters and pose for photos. It was a lot of fun! Character meals can be found at many restaurants in Deluxe Resorts and throughout all four theme parks.
Then there are character cavalcades, throughout the day, where characters walk or ride through the park in vehicles, or sail down the waterways in Disney's Animal Kingdom. You'll be able to see quite a few favorite characters this way.
I suspect these experiences will continue to evolve, but even if they don't there are still many magical memories to be made.
Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!
Diane
