Can a military member buy tickets from their base and gift the to non-military family?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Kai!

My military family is very grateful for the fantastic special offers that make a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort more affordable, saving us a few dollars for extra magic (or extra Dole Whips!). We understand how important together time is for our service members and their families, and I can’t think of a better place to be together and make amazing memories than The Most Magical Place on Earth.

Military members are able to purchase the military promotional theme park tickets on their local base, and these tickets may be shared with friends or family as long as a few conditions are also met. First of all, the service member must be a member of the party visiting Walt Disney World. When you purchase tickets on base, you receive an exchange certificate, which can be linked to My Disney Experience to make FastPass+ reservations, but which is not valid for theme park admission until activated at a Guest Relations window. At Guest Relations, the military member (or their spouse, if the spouse has a valid and active military ID) will present their valid and active military ID, and a Cast Member will activate the exchange certificates. From there – let the magic begin! Because of this process, the military member can’t gift the tickets to non-military members who are not joining them, because the Guests would not be able to activate their tickets.

The other condition to keep in mind is that each service member may purchase a maximum of 6 tickets per year for their family. If you’d like to take a look at the terms and conditions for the military ticket offer, you can find them on the Military Promotional Ticket Special Offer web page. Note too that this offer is only valid for travel through December 19, 2019. We’re still waiting to see if a 2020 offer is released, and what those conditions might be.

Kai, I hope this is the information you wanted to hear and that you’ll be able to take advantage of this great offer. If it won’t work, be sure to take a look at the Special Offers web page – sometimes, we find offers that work even better for our family than the military discounts, so it’s always worth a check.

Have so much fun planning your Walt Disney World Resort vacation, and please come back and see us if we can answer any further questions.

    Have a zip-a-dee-doo-dah day,
