Hello Heidi, thank you for bringing this question to us at planDisney.
I am sending my deepest condolences and a very warm hug to you and your family, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your Mother-in-law. I hope that a visit to the
"Happiest Place on Earth" can allow everyone to honor her memory and help heal from your loss.
My first suggestion would be to honor her through your itinerary during the trip. Did she have a favorite attraction at
Disneyland Park or
Disney California Adventure Park that she always had to experience during a trip? A family photo in front of her
favorite attraction or with her favorite Disney character is a wonderful way for her to be there in spirit with you. If she had a favorite
dining spot or treat, there is no better way to bring families together than the love of food, and you could have a wonderful toast or celebration in her honor!
When I have experienced tough times in my life, I have found that spreading joy and love can help bring the light back into my life when it feels hard to find a smile. Could you purchase one of the beautiful Disney balloons on
Main Street, U.S.A., and pass it along to another family to help spread a smile? I love the idea of spreading joy throughout the Disneyland Resort to a fellow Guest, I often think of how Snow White said "Remember, you're the one who can fill the world with sunshine." We were gifted a balloon on our very first trip to the Disneyland Resort, and I'll never forget how happy it made my son!
My final suggestion would be to head to Disneyland Park and make a wish in her honor at Snow White's wishing well near
Sleeping Beauty Castle. Everyone could share a favorite memory of your Mother-in-law, and make a wish for the family for the coming year.
Heidi, I hope these recommendations are helpful, and help honor her memory during your trip. If we can help with any other questions you may have as you continue your planning, please do not hesitate to
come back and ask.
Sending you and your family love,
Melissa
