My mil. DH leaves soon for a yr & I want to surprise 7yo DD w trip to WDW while he's gone. 1st time wo DH & am 2nd guessing if I can do it myself! Always stay at POP but was thinking of switching it up for her. Go Moderate? Suggestions, please

    Hi Alexandra,

What a great idea to make special memories with your daughter while your husband is away!

I love Pop Century, but if it is your regular spot and you want something that will feel out of the ordinary, I suggest you look at the Little Mermaid standard rooms at Art of Animation or the Royal Guest Rooms at Port Orleans -- Riverside.

The new Art of Animation is adjacent to Pop Century and beautifully themed. The Big Blue Pool is the largest resort pool at Walt Disney World. When you walk through the different areas -- Cars, Lion King, Finding Nemo, Little Mermaid -- you feel as if you are immersed in the movies. Art of Animation is a value resort.

The Royal Guest Rooms at Port Orleans also are fairly new and they are beautiful, especially if your daughter likes princesses. The idea is that you are staying in a room Princess Tiana has prepared for her royal friends. There are touches of all Disney royalty in the room. My favorite touch is the gold faucet shaped like Genie's lamp from Aladdin. The fireworks in the art over the bed is pretty cool, too.

The grounds at Port Orleans -- Riverside are reminiscent of a Southern plantation. You can take a boat from the resort to Downtown Disney.

I have no doubt that you can do this alone, as bittersweet as it may be. Thank you and your family for the sacrifices you make so that your husband can serve.

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. Wishing your husband safe journeys and you and your daughter the vacation of a lifetime. Enjoy!
