For Mickey's Not So Scary, it looks like hoop skirts are discouraged, but not technically banned. Is that a correct interpretation of the guidelines? My dress does not drag the ground and could be worn with a petticoat but I would prefer a hoop skirt

    Hi there, Jolene!

Thanks for stopping by planDisney with your spooktacular question! Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is hands down my favorite celebration at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Halloween isn't complete without trick-or-treating around Magic Kingdom Park and getting big hugs from the characters, who are dressed for the occasion. What I love the most is that we, as adults, can also wear costumes. But exactly how extravagant can we get? Let's get into it.

First of all, your costume piece is giving me Bo Peep or Cinderella vibes. Swoon! I wish I knew more details about it. But I have a feeling that you have something epic planned! One year, my clown costume had a structured frame underneath it that created a hoop skirt effect. I had no issue getting through security with it on, but squeezing into Space Mountain was a bit of a task.

Now, the current costume guidelines for Guests 14 years of age or older that pertain to your hoop skirt are:

-Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.

-Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground (for example, full-length Princess dresses).

That said, the fate of your hoop skirt is in the hands of the metal detector's sensors and the security officers. I recommend avoiding wearing a skirt with a metal frame to bypass the additional screening. As for the length, when I dressed as Mary Sanderson from Hocus Pocus at the last party, my dress definitely touched the ground, but I was good to go in the eyes of the Cast Members. The biggest concern is most likely creating an obstacle for those around you. So, I also recommend that you pack a backup costume (you don't want to miss out on the dress-up fun!) or have another plan in case you are asked to remove it.

AN EXTRA GEM: Did you know that we're almost halfway to Halloween? Check out the planDisney Guide to Celebrating Disney Parks Halfway to Halloween at Home, so that you can really get into the spirit way before the main event arrives.
