We are going to Mickey's Backyard Barbeque at 5:30 on January 12th. How long does this last and what is the best way to get back to Hollywood Studios? Can we get there in time for Fantasmic at 7:00 or the Star Wars firework show at 7:45?

Hi Sandy! Mickey's Backyard Barbecue is held in an outdoor pavilion at the Fort Wilderness Resort. To reach this location you will have to either take a boat from the Magic Kingdom, Contemporary, or Wilderness Lodge or a bus from all other Disney property locations.

The show is a ton of fun with some of the only chances to really get up close to many of the Disney characters. Mickey and Minnie will be on the dance floor with the kids and for those who are too shy to whoop it up dancing there will always be characters off to the sides for great photo opportunities. Autographs are not given out during this event but you will get tons of memorable photos.

The first thing you will do is eat and the barbecue buffets are quite extensive with plenty to satisfy the hungriest. Once the meal is served the entertainment begins with a live band and cowboy fun. That ends with the dancing for the evening.

To get back to Hollywood Studios you would have to hop on an internal bus to get to the main bus area of the resort. Then wait for the Hollywood Studio bus which can take up to about 15 minutes. The trip to the park would depend on traffic but plan on another 15-20 minutes. If you add all of the timing up I would tell you that you would not make it back for a 7pm Fantasmic show and likely not a Star Wars Firework show if you stayed for the full MIckey's Backyard Barbecue experience. Of course you can depart at any time so it will depend on you if you wish to leave early. It is always hard to make decisions about what you can see and do while at Disney since they offer so many great opportunities!
