Hi, Tracie!
Believe it or not, there is a Disney's Animal Kingdom Park tour that's geared for Guests just like you. Check out
Backstage Safari, a 3-hour tour including visits to the Animal Nutrition Center, an animal housing area and...you guessed it...the "state-of-the-art animal veterinary hospital, where you may even witness animals being treated." Imagine how much more you'll get from the tour since your veterinarian husband will be there to ask insightful questions only an expert would pose. (Hmm...come to think of it, may I tag along? :-) ) At the time of this writing, the tour is $72 per person and is open to Guests at least 16 years of age. (I hear if there are any surgeries taking place that day, you might be able to observe...hence the minimum age of 16.)
Looking for something to include family members as young as 8? Try
Wild Africa Trek which takes Guests through the Safi River Valley. A highlight of my most recent trip to Walt Disney World with my 12-year-old, this trek includes some mild hiking, crossing rope bridges (while secured to a safety harness), interactions with Animal Guides, an up-close view of the savanna in a "rugged safari vehicle", a gourmet African-inspired snack (yum!) and time to view the animals on the Harambe Reserve...all while being photographed by a professional photographer whose photos are yours to keep when the tour concludes.
Hope one of these two tours works well for your family, Tracie! You're sure to love the additional information you'll hear from your Guides; it's truly a fascinating look at the animal-care side of Disney's Animal Kingdom Park!
Send more questions as you think of them; we love to help!
