Hi Lori,
Welcome to planDisney! Thanks for stopping by with a question!
I am pleased to say that the Walt Disney World Resort offers several
Services for Guests with Disabilities that have been helpful for my family. The
Disability Access Service in particular might be useful for your friend. It is designed to help Guests who cannot tolerate standing in a traditional queue. Currently, you can speak with a Cast Member in Guest Relations about this service when you arrive to a theme park.
If they determine that this service is appropriate for your friend's needs, they will assign it to her and then they can link you as well so that you all can ride together. How it works - anyone in your party can approach a Cast Member at the entrance to an attraction to request a return time to ride. When you return, your friend with the Disability Access Service has to scan in first to ride. The rest of you connected to her DAS can then scan in to ride. The Cast Member will confirm for you how many additional Guests can be connected to her DAS. Please follow those guidelines. On our trip in July, we saw folks using DAS and trying to add additional family members at the attraction. The family members connected to your friend's DAS need to be connected by the Cast Member in Guest Relations.
Lori, also be sure to share the
Guides for Guests with Disabilities with your friend. And, think about how you will get in plenty of relaxing breaks while in the parks. My family uses
advanced dining reservations as a way to plan our breaks during the day and to cool down. Doing so helps us to recharge and plan more efficiently for the remainder of the day. Also consider the time of day you plan to arrive at a park. We prefer to arrive prior to park opening so that we can get in right as they open the park and make a quick dash to a favorite ride.
Keep up the wonderful planning. We are delighted to welcome you to the magic!
Magic and memories,
Donyell
