Must all medication be brought in its orignal bottles?

    Hi there, Nancy,

Welcome to planDisney. It's great that you are taking the time to make sure all your ducks are in a row before boarding your upcoming Disney cruise. As fellow Guests just like you, it's our pleasure here at planDisney to give you our advice and support as you plan your magical vacation with Captains Minnie and Mickey!

The Disney Cruise Line emphasizes that prescription medications should be kept in their original containers. You can find this guideline in various places, including the Disney Cruise Line terms and conditions. I've also seen this same recommendation included on travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State and other agencies. The State Department's advisories indicate that using original containers is important for aligning with the laws and regulations of other countries that you may visit while on your cruise. I appreciate how my planDisney pal Rayna, who happens to be a medical professional herself, explains that original packaging helps with safety and quick identification, particularly in emergencies. Dr. Rayna has additional information and advice that I recommend reading, including the reminder to pack your prescription medication in your carry-on luggage rather than your checked luggage, just in case!

Tony's Tip: I understand the concern that comes with packing our medications, especially prescription medications while traveling. A worry that I have is that if I lose my bottle of medication while traveling, I may lose doses even beyond what would be needed for the short time we are on our vacation. To help with that, I remove all doses from my medication bottle except the number that I need while traveling. I put the extra doses in an old bottle of my prescription medication that I leave at home for safekeeping.

Thanks for this great question, Nancy. If I'm not mistaken, your Disney cruise is pretty soon. I'm envious you will be heading to "where magic meets the sea" so soon. Though, I won't be too far behind you, I suppose. Our family's next Disney cruise will be in the following month. I know many others of my planDisney pals have cruises or other Disney vacations scheduled as well. We really love sharing things we learn from our Disney experiences. So if you have any more last-minute questions or requests for recommendations, I hope we'll hear from you again soon here at planDisney.

    Have a magical cruise, Nancy!
    ~Tony
