I am a medically retired veteran with 80% but I’m considered totally disabled getting paid at 100% (TDIU). Do I qualify for Shades of Green stay and/or any discounts?

    Welcome, Caytlon!

Thanks for bringing your important question to planDisney. Most importantly, thank you for your service to our great nation. I’m honored to help you understand your eligibility for Shades of Green and any additional military discounts for a special vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort.

I’m happy to share that yes, you are definitely eligible to stay at Shades of Green, an Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC) located on the Walt Disney World Resort property. My husband is also a Veteran and we’ve enjoyed staying at this beautiful, convenient resort near Magic Kingdom Park. It boasts the largest standard rooms of any resort on property with beautiful grounds, generous amenities, and bus transportation to the theme parks. Once you review the eligibility details, you may check room availability on the website and see the nightly room rate corresponding to your status.

Shades of Green also offers discounted theme park tickets in a variety of park day options, which you can purchase and receive in the mail to your home. A benefit to this process is that they arrive activated and ready for use, saving you a stop at Guest Services when you arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort so that you can go straight into a theme park for some fun.

Since you are retired, please review the additional savings offered through the Disney Military Salute tickets and resort room offers on the Walt Disney World Resort website. These Military Salute tickets are offered in 4 or 5-day bundles, and the military rates for resort rooms are available over the phone.

Please know that you can combine any of these options that work best for your family’s vacation style and duration, Caytlon. For example, you can combine a stay at Shades of Green with Disney Military Salute tickets, or a Disney military room discount with Shades of Green theme park tickets. Whatever you decide that fits your family’s needs best can make your vacation dreams come true!

Once you have these components purchased, you can link them to your My Disney Experience account for management of your vacation. When you decide which dates to visit each theme park, be sure to make those critical theme park reservations too.

Inclusion is a core value at the Walt Disney World Resort, so whether your disabilities are seen or unseen, please know you will be able to enjoy everything the parks and resorts have to offer through their disability care and special services.

I don’t want to get too far ahead of your planning, so please send me another question if you’d like to continue our conversation. (Click on “get an answer from this panelist” on my biography page and we can dive back in together.) You can always send any other questions or needs to our team as you did this one and one of my wonderful planDisney pals will reply to you quickly.

We look forward to helping you make the most of this special vacation and bringing clarity to anything you need along the way. Hope to see ya again real soon!

    With gratitude,
    Amy
