    Can meal plans be purchased even if you are not staying on Disney property

    Hello and welcome to planDisney, Teresa. Thanks for stopping by to chat about one of my favorite things - Disney Dining! 

    Actually, Teresa, the Disney Dining Plan is still temporarily suspended from the shut down of Walt Disney World last year. That is one program that we have not yet seen return. The good news is that the Disney Parks Blog announced a few months back that the fan-favorite will be making a comeback. The bad news is, at that time, they still weren't sure when. Since that article was released, we haven't really heard anything else about the Disney Dining Plan returning just yet. I personally think we will see it come back toward the beginning of next year. Things are definitely moving in the right direction with the reopening of several Walt Disney World restaurants lately. 

    If the Disney Dining Plan returns before your vacation, Teresa, and looks similar to what it did before, you would have to be staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel to take advantage of the benefits. Previously, the Disney Dining Plan was only reserved for on-property Guests. Of course, things could look differently when the program is re-launched so you'll want to be sure to keep an eye out over on the Disney Parks Blog for all the details. 

    If you are looking for something to mimic the Disney Dining Plan, I actually suggest purchasing Disney gift cards before your vacation. You have plenty of time between now and then to stock up. I like using them in lieu of the Disney Dining Plan because they are still paid for ahead of time and have to be used for something at Walt Disney World. It's a way to budget for splurgy meals and snacks. I like to pick one up while I am doing my grocery shopping occasionally. It doesn't add a lot to my bill and I am always surprised at how quickly they add up.

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
