Hi, how much of a markup on liquor bottles is there compared to outside of the resort?

    Hiya, Rich!

Welcome to planDisney! I am so very glad you found us. This is such a fantastic question. Let's uncork all the details you'll need for perfect cocktails in The Most Magical Place on Earth, without putting your budget on the rocks.

Rich, I think you'll find that the pricing for liquor bottles in Walt Disney World Resort merchandise shops will offer comparable markups to most hotels/restaurants. And while I don't have the exact percentages (math, unlike cocktail advice, is not my strong suit friend), I have not found them to be unreasonable. But this option will be your most expensive choice of the three tips I have to offer. Here are my top three picks for bottle purchases, served with the essential pro and con advice.
    • Bring your favorite bottle from home. Pro: This is the most cost-efficient option Con: Bottles can break. Those straight-up savings may serve a twist you weren't expecting...like extra laundry. Now, that's a buzz kill.
    • Utilize grocery delivery services to order your vacation staples, including beverages. You will still experience a markup in cost, but it won't leave you shaken. Pro: These services deliver your purchase right to your resort, no need to run errands during your magical stay. Con: Unlike some grocery purchases, you will need to be present to accept this delivery. Drivers will need to see a valid photo ID, so some flexibility may be removed from your itinerary. Extra tip: when utilizing this option, be sure to add bottled water to your purchase. Nothing derails a trip faster than being dehydrated...if you catch my drift.
    • Purchasing a bottle directly from the resort hotel merchandise location. We covered the con, the price will be slightly higher. Pro: This really is the most convenient option for full bottles.
I can honestly say I have used all three of the above options...many times. I find bringing beverages from home to be the bottom of the barrel of these options. You will need to check a bag to bring a full-sized container, which could lead to added travel costs if you are more of a carry-on type of traveler. And those tiny bottles may fit in the required quart-sized bag for flights, but they also have a markup..and tend to lead to a little extra time getting through security in my experience. Now, if you're driving the convenience factor changes completely, and this may be your best option! I personally find grocery delivery to be the perfect balance of convenient and cost-effective, straight up.

Rich, while bottles are a great option, I can't sign off without recommending that you enjoy some of the amazing cocktails that Walt Disney World Resort has to offer. From fine wines to unique beverages, there is sure to be a perfect fit for your pallet. There are so many wonderful locations to enjoy a mid-day break with a cocktail to cool off. Nomad Lounge is at the top of my list of best places to unwind, and the specialty drinks are perfection. The Green Shimmering Margarita is my current must-try. I know it sounds sparkly and sweet, but it's quite spicy and delicious! I also highly recommend Enchanted Rose Lounge and of course, Oga's Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge for their immersive theming and delightful menus.

We hope to see ya real soon!
    Cheers, friend!
