In March of 2020, will you still be able to build your own light saber at Tatooine Traders? We have had a traditions after to Jedi training to go there and build a light saber for the child. We would like to continue that tradition with our 4th child.

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Jennifer!

What a lovely tradition you have going with your young Padawans. After they learn to use their Force sensitivity for the good of the galaxy at Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, it seems perfectly fitting that they then build their very own lightsaber so they can practice and perfect their new moves. I know Master Yoda would approve!

I haven’t heard anything about Tatooine Traders closing, and I’m sending you some intergalactic pixie dust that it’s still operating when you visit in March 2020. With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening later this month, there’s certainly a lot of change going on at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and I can’t predict what the future will hold.

Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge provides a new opportunity to build you own lightsaber. You’ll meet with one of Savi’s mysterious Gatherers and learn the secrets of lightsaber construction, from choosing the kyber crystal at the heart of your lightsaber and selecting its purpose to assembling the parts and adding the blade. Note that this experience is recommended for ages 5 and up, and is currently priced at $199.99, which is subject to change.

Since you have 4 young Padawans, I can understand that you’re likely hoping for a consistent experience and tradition amongst all of them, and that the price point matters. Along with Tatooine Traders, I’ve seen build you own lightsaber stations at Once Upon a Toy in Disney Springs and Mouse Gear in Epcot (which is moving to a temporary home this winter and may not have the lightsaber experience available), so if you find that Tatooine Traders no longer offers the experience, be sure to check with a Cast Member in any merchandise location to find out what options might be available. I also recommend reading the Disney Parks Blog for the latest dispatches from Batuu and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Jennifer, I hope you and your family have the BEST time on your visit this coming March! As you plan and dream, please come back and see us. Here on the Moms Panel, we understand how special those magical memories and traditions are, and it’s a pleasure to help fellow Guests plan unforgettable vacations.

May The Force Be With You,
